Kasinda is currently completing an honours dissertation in Ethnomusicology at the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Nicholas Tochka. Kasinda is writing about the experience of African-Australian musicians making music in Melbourne. Including the complex personal and cultural identities of people living as people of African descent in Australia, the groundbreaking musical ideas coming from this community and problems in the industry for African-Australians including racism, lack of representation, tokenism and stereotypes. Kasinda is producing this work through interview of ten musicians as well as reflecting on personal experience as a black musician in Australia.
